My name is Mimura Rika, and I am dating a celebrity. I bet you’re wondering who I’m dating. His name is Aiba Masaki. Yes, the Aiba Masaki from Arashi. Dating Masaki has made me realize, dating someone famous, especially a guy from JE, is very tiring. So I’m going to give you readers’ tips on dating a celebrity.

Masaki and I met at the park. It was their seventh year as a band, and they were growing even more popular by the day. Truly, how do they do it? Well, I was walking down the small paths, admiring the cherry blossoms; it was the beginning of April. The feeling of spring was coming, the start of a new school year, a new school, new friends, new love. I love spring.

I found a nice bench and sat down, looking up at the pink petals flying around. The park was empty, since it was a Monday and early noon, most people were at work and the children were at school. It was a peaceful moment. That is, until he came along.

It was quiet, except for the birds chirping. It was peaceful. Then, suddenly, there was a loud voice, singing at the top of his lungs. I turned around to see a guy, wearing sunglasses and a hat, with large headphones, dancing his way down the path singing. I glared at the guy for ruining my peace. Once he came closer, to punish him for being rude, I stuck out my legs, and thanks to my half American parents, my legs were long enough to make him fall.

“What the heck?” he slowly got up, putting his headphones around his neck. “What was that for?” he turned his face towards me. I couldn’t tell if he was looking at me, so I cocked my head to the side, giving him an innocent look. He had on big aviator glasses with a dark green beanie. “Oh, sorry…” he apologized. “Um…hello?” he said in horrible English. I started to laugh. Although my parents were half American, both of them, and I got some of their traits, making me look foreign, I didn’t speak any English other then what the middle and high schools taught me.

“Sorry, sorry,” I laughed. “I didn’t see you coming and I was stretching,” I lied. The man got up.

“You speak Japanese?”

“Only Japanese,” I was used to this. Why couldn’t people just accept that not all foreign looking people are foreigners? He stood up and brushed off his clothes. “What are you listening to?”

“I’m listening to Arashi,” he grinned. I laughed again. A guy listening to a boy band. What a kick.

“Arashi?” I smirked. “You listen to Arashi?” I saw him turn a bit pink.

“Why you don’t?” he said defensively.

“Oh, no, I do, when they put out the occasional good song, I listen to it, but a guy?”

“Is it bad that a guy listens to Arashi?” the guy’s mouth turned down. “What do you mean ‘the occasional good song’?”

“Well, not all of their songs are good, I’d say there are about five of their songs that I like,” I nodded. The guy sat down next to me.

“What’s your name?” he sounded a bit mad. Why was he mad? I was just telling the truth.

“Why do you need to know?”

“Just tell me.” his voice was stern. What is with this guy?

“Rika,” I said reluctantly.

“Rika what?”

“Tell me your name first!” I glared.

“Aiba Masaki.” His voice was flat. I started to laugh.

“Yea, right, Aiba Masaki, no really, tell me your real name.”

“I really am Aiba Masaki!” the guy said loudly. “Here!” he said, taking his sunglasses off. I looked closely at his face. He looked like Aiba Masaki, but why would an idol like him be doing in a park like this? Singing to his own song? Wait! He was singing to his own song? How pathetic! I thought Aiba Masaki would be a bit different, but I guess I can’t judge a person’s personality without getting to know them first.

“So, what’s your real name?” I asked once again, just for the fun of it.

“Aiba Masaki!” he yelled. “Is that a problem?” I shook my head. “What’s your name?!” his voice was still loud. I smirked at him. He was the easy type to tease.

“Mimura Rika.”

“Mimura Rika…” he mumbled. “I’m going to remember that!” he said to himself.

“Why?” Aiba jumped, looking at me as if he just noticed I was there.

“I’m going to prove to you that we don’t put out just ‘occasional good songs’ but how we put out ‘all the time great songs’!” he jumped up. “Just wait and see!” With that, he was soon out of sight, leaving me sitting on the bench, my heart pounding from the encounter, while pink petals kept raining down on me.

Tip one: When you first meet a celebrity, don’t treat him like a celebrity, he’ll take you more seriously.

I turned on the TV about a week after my bump in with Aiba Masaki.

“Yea, I was at the park and I got tripped,” My heart stopped. Aiba Masaki was on TV, on his TV show with the rest of Arashi, Ogu-san, and a guest. “Then I got mad and I looked at the person and it was this girl!” Aiba Masaki exclaimed. “I freaked out because she looked American!”

“Oh, too bad Sho-kun wasn’t with you, since your English is so horrible…” Matsumoto Jun laughed, the audience laughing with him.

“Shut up!” I smiled, as Aiba Masaki continued his story. “Well, turns out she’s Japanese, so I started to talk to her a bit,” many disapproving sounds came from the audience. “And she told me she only liked five Arashi songs and said that we only put out ‘the occasional good song’,” many gasps were heard. The guest, who I wasn’t sure who she was, Sakurai Sho and Ninomiya Kazunari chuckled. Ohno Satoshi seemed to be sleeping, while Matsumoto Jun and Ogu-san looked surprised. “And so if she’s watching this right now, I want her to listen carefully, because with this song that we’re going to sing,” he looked right into the camera and I felt chills as it looked like he was looking right at me. “It’ll change your mind!”

Ok, Aiba Masaki, I’ll watch this, change my mind. I sat down in front of the TV and watched as Arashi appeared on stage. The music played and Matsumoto Jun started out with his solo line, and then followed by Ohno Satoshi. Suddenly the music became upbeat. It was addicting, I admit.

Then Aiba Masaki’s solo came, I didn’t notice, but a smile spread across my face when I saw him dance and sing. The chorus, ‘We can make it through…’ ran in my head, even after the song ended.

“Aiba Masaki, I will admit, that was a good song,” I smiled, the show ending. I turned the TV off.

The next day I was walking in the park again. I loved to walk in this park. It was the best place to be. Are you wondering what I do? Do I work? Am I a student? Well, to tell you, neither. My father is a famous producer, and my mother is a well known voice coach. They’ve been trying to convince me to go for music. Put out a CD.

I wouldn’t mind, that is. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember, I’m just afraid. Afraid of rejection and disappointment. So, right now, I’m still deciding whether to go and get a job, since I did get my masters in business, or just listen to my parents and put out a CD? Most people would jump at the CD opportunity, but I’m not like most people.

I turned down the usual path. I glanced up to see if my bench was empty, when I saw the guy. Same beanie, same sunglasses, same headphones. Aiba Masaki. What is he doing? Doesn’t he have work? Aren’t idols supposed to be busy? His face was looking down at his hands when I walked up to him. He didn’t seem to notice me, so I got a grin on my face and patted his head. Aiba Masaki jumped slightly.

“You!” he cried. “Mimura Rika!” I smiled down at him.

“And you, Aiba Masaki,” I sat down next to him. “What are you doing here? Don’t you have work?”

“Don’t you?” he gave me a smug smile. I shook my head.

“No, I don’t.” his smile dropped, confused. He then shook his head.

“Did you see me yesterday?” I nodded slightly, remembering the song.

“I did, and I can’t believe you talked about me on TV!” I pushed him.

“What did you think of the song?” his voice sounded eager. I could tell he was waiting for my answer, he wanted to know, since he took the shove.

“I liked it,” I said flatly.

“I knew you would!” Aiba Masaki exclaimed. He grinned at me. I wanted to tell him that just one song wasn’t going to change my mind, but just looked too happy, I couldn’t ruin it. “What part did you like the best?”

“I really like the solo parts,” I closed my eyes, remembering their performance. “First you, then Ninomiya Kazunari, then Sakurai Sho then Ohno Satoshi and Matsumoto Jun…” I glanced up at him. “But I liked the part where you and Matsumoto Jun sang the best.”

“Where’s that?” he grinned at me. He took off his sunglasses and moved his headphones down around his neck.

“Right before Sakurai Sho’s rap, which was really good too.” I admit it, I really liked the song. Sakurai Sho’s rap was really good, I liked that a lot. “Now that I think of it, maybe I like Sakurai Sho’s rap part more…” as I teased him, I saw Aiba Masaki’s smile drop.

“You liked the rap?” he laughed. “But my solo was better right?” Wow, did he rebound quick!

“I don’t know, Ohno Satoshi is good too…”

“Why are you saying their full names?”

“What else am I supposed to call them?” really, what else am I supposed to call them? I didn’t want to call them by the names everyone always called them. It makes me feel like I’m a fan.

“I don’t know, their nicknames?” exactly what I don’t want. I rolled my eyes.

“I don’t want to feel like an obsessed fan, Aiba Masaki,” I crossed my arms. “If anything, I’ll call you guys by your last names, except you.”

“Why except me?” he wailed.

“Because you annoy me.”

“What?!” and thanks to my big mouth, we got into an argument.

“Well nice talking to you!” I yelled, after a few hours of arguing. First about names, then to songs, then to how I tripped him, then to how arrogant he was, and soon, we were just yelling for the heck of it. I turned on my heels and stormed away.

“Wait!” I heard his boot hit the ground as he neared. I stopped, turning my head to look at him with my best death glare. “I’m sorry…” he said softly.

“Sorry, right,” I nodded, starting to walk again.

“Let me make it up to you…I’ll treat you to lunch!” his voice sounded desperate.

“Lunch? Where?” I was interested. The shouting and the arguing got me pretty hungry.

“Anywhere,” he smiled a little. “Anywhere you want.” I thought for a moment. I have always wanted to go to that new Italian restaurant…

“How about Mariano’s?” I let my lips curl a little. Aiba Masaki’s face brightened.

“Perfect! I’ve wanted to go there since they opened!” he ran up to me. “Let’s go!” he grabbed my arm and started pulling me down the path. He’s touching me. At first I wanted to pull away, disgusted. But now, I didn’t want him to let go, I wanted to keep feeling his hand on mine.

He had put on his sunglasses again. We made our way down the side walks and crossed a few roads and finally we were seated at a small table near the window. Aiba Masaki took off his sunglasses.

“Aiba Masaki,” I said, setting down my glass cup. “What should we order?”

“I’m not sure, Mimura Rika, it’s also my first time here,” he glanced at the menu. “I feel like a pizza.”

“Then I feel like pasta.”

“Then? If I didn’t get pizza then what would you get?”

“Pizza.” I answered flatly, looking at the drinks now.

“Why don’t you just get a pizza if you want one?”

“I don’t want to order the same thing as you,” how boring would that be? He shrugged though, and called the waiter over. We placed our orders and sat there in silence for awhile. It felt awkward and I wanted to say something, but I was afraid that if I said something, it would make things even more awkward. Lucky for me, I didn’t have to be that person.

“So you don’t work?” I shook my head. “Where do you live?”

“In an apartment,”

“With who?”

“With me.” he asks a lot of questions.

“What? How do you pay for rent?” he was surprised. I let out a sigh. I guess I’ll have to explain to him my family.

“My father is a producer, you may have heard of him? Mimura Hayato?” I didn’t wait for his answer. “And my mother is a voice coach; you may have worked with her, because she does work with JE people…Mimura Aya?” I looked at Aiba Masaki. He nodded.

“I’ve worked with her before…”

“Well, they want me to put out a CD, but I’m not sure. So I’m choosing right now, since I just finished my masters, should I go for the CD or just get a job?” I took a sip of my drink. Why did I just tell that to Aiba Masaki?

“Look! It’s Aiba Masaki!” a couple of girls squealed. “Who is he with? Oh my gosh! Is that his girlfriend? I can’t believe he has a girlfriend!” I glanced up at the girls. Aiba Masaki seemed to ignore them.

“It’s ok, Kari, you’re so much prettier than her, if he saw you right now, I bet he’d dump her for you!” Aiba made a face after hearing that. I shrugged.

Tip two: Don’t take rude comments seriously, they’re just jealous.

“Lunch was very nice, Aiba Masaki,” I thanked him as we walked out of the restaurant.

“Anytime, Mimura Rika,” he replied. Any time? What was that supposed to mean? He was probably just being polite right? But it was a great chance for me to tease him.

“Anytime? Ok then, how about everyday from now?” I laughed. “Every day a different place? That sounds nice.” I didn’t get my expected protest, nor a weird sound. I looked at him, afraid that maybe he left. But he was next to me, just a smile on his face. A smile? Why was he smiling?

“Everyday?” he repeated. Uh-oh. No! Did I just say something that I’m going to regret?

“Aiba Masaki?”

“Well, I mean,” he tried to act cool. “If you want, I can take you out to lunch everyday. I mean, I guess I can make time and all…” I smirked.

“‘I guess…’ huh?” I frowned, but of course, I was smiling on the inside. I turned around from him and walked away.

“No! I mean, I can make time!” he ran after me. Oh was he fun to tease!

“Then I’d love to,” I bowed. “But next time, let me treat,” I couldn’t let him pay for the bill every time, that would be rude.

“I can’t let the lady pay,” he furrowed his eyebrows. “That’s ungentlemanly.”

“Aiba Masaki, when did you ever become a gentleman?” I laughed. He grumbled to himself but kept on walking beside me.

“Well then, I guess I have another thing to prove you wrong, Mimura Rika,” Aiba Masaki said, bowing. “Please, let me escort you home.” He wants to take me home? Was I sure that it was ok to let him see where I lived? He might not leave me alone…but I gave in when I saw his bright smile.

“Ok then, Aiba Masaki, prove me wrong.” He straightened up and held out his arm and I looped mine with his. I can’t believe it, I’m locking arms with a famous person! Even though he’s a weird, annoying, arrogant, famous person. I wonder if the rest of Arashi are just as arrogant as he is…I had an image that Matsumoto Jun would be like that. I hope I don’t ever meet him…

“Where do you live, miss?” Aiba Masaki’s voice was very polite.

“At Singar Plaza,” I replied in the same tone. Aiba’s body stiffened.

“Did you say Singar Plaza? Miss?” he didn’t put the act down though.

“Yes I did, sir,” I nodded. Please don’t say what I think you will.

“That is where I live also, miss,” I wanted to scream. No! He lives in the same apartment complex as I do? Great! Now I know he’ll never leave me alone! I let out a big sigh. “What was that for?!” Aiba Masaki dropped his act.

“Oh no reason,” my arm slid away from his as I kept on walking, my shoulders slumped.

“You’re weird, most people would be delighted to know that I live in the same place as them!” Aiba Masaki stomped his feet as he walked next to me. He is such a kid.

“Well I’m not most people!” I pointed out to me. “Oh, now I can’t let you know where I live! You’ll never leave me alone!” I sighed again, this time being more dramatic.

“What do you mean? If I knew where you lived, I’d make sure I don’t go near that floor!” he snapped. Oh, so gentlemen like.

“Oh, well then, thanks for the escort!” I turned and sped up. A few seconds went by before I heard his footsteps. He didn’t say anything though. But I knew he was following me. I wanted to turn around and say something. I kept my mouth shut though. I didn’t want to cause a scene in public.

We kept walking in silence. Down a few streets, around corners, across streets, and finally I stood in front of a tall black building. It looked as if there weren’t windows, but of course, there were. They were just tinted from the outside, making the whole building look as if it were a sheet of black glass. I nodded to the guards and walked in. I paused and glanced back to see if he followed me inside. To my surprise he was right behind me. I almost jumped. He saw me look at him and smiled. I glared.

“Why are you following me?” I pressed the up button, waiting for the elevator to come down. This complex had large rooms, and on each floor there were only three rooms.

“I’m going home, is that a problem?” oh yea, he lives here. I let out a sigh. The elevator came down and the doors opened. The both of us walked in. Aiba Masaki reached over and pressed the twenty second floor.

“Are you a stalker?!” I looked at him, shocked. How did he know what floor I lived on?

“What do you mean?” The doors shut and the elevator lurched upward.

“Did you follow me one day to find out what floor I lived on?” I took a step away from him.

“What are you talking about? I live on that floor!” My heart seemed to stop. The elevator was filled with a heavy feeling. I groaned. This can’t be happening. Not only does he live in my apartment complex, but he lives on my floor!

“Which room are you?”

“I’m not telling you!” oh wow, as if he’s going to be able to keep that a secret forever, now that I know he lives on my floor! I bet I’ll notice him more and more now. “Now that I think of it, you do look like the girl from 2202…” well, no duh! I’m that girl. I smacked my forehead.

“You know which room I live in now, so which one are you? 2201 or 2203?”

“2201.” The elevator doors opened and I got off quickly. I stopped and waited to see if he actually had the key to the apartment. I still can’t believe that he lives next to me. But Aiba Masaki stopped too, standing in front of the door.

“Aren’t you going in?” I asked.

“Aren’t you?”

“I’m going in after you do, I want to make sure you actually live there and aren’t some crazy stalker.” Hey, I’m a twenty three year old girl who lives on her own! He let out a sigh and took out his keys.

“For all I know, you’re some obsessed fan!” I was shocked. How dare he say I’m his fan. Especially his fan!

“Obsessed fan?” I laughed. “If I were to ever be obsessed with Arashi, I especially wouldn’t be obsessed over you!” he inserted a key and the door opened. So he does live next to me. Great.

“Excuse you!” Aiba Masaki exclaimed. “Well then, who would you obsess over? Matsumoto Jun?” Matsumoto Jun? Oh, no, he’s scary.

“No, Sakurai Sho. I like guys that actually have sensible brains.”

“Oh wow,” he laughed. “Maybe you should meet Sho-chan someday, then that idea will just fly out!” I glared at him. I was about to say ‘And you would know,’ but of course he would know. “Now you open your door.” I took out my keys and opened my door and went inside quickly, locking it behind me. A few seconds later, I heard a slam.

I was so…what is this feeling? I was upset, I was surprised, I was happy, everything was mixed into one. I walked over to my couch and slouched in it, looking out the window over looking the busy city. I can’t believe Aiba Masaki lives next to me. He’ll probably bother me all the time! There were knocks. Great timing! I mumbled, getting up.

“Yes?” I put on an obvious fake smile and opened the door, facing Aiba Masaki.

“I .. um…” he was shifting from one foot to another.

“Yes?” I didn’t want to waist my time talking to him. I was about to close the door to get back to my couch when he finally looked up from his feet.

“Lunch tomorrow, where do you want to go?” Huh? He still wanted to go to lunch? Wow, what a weird guy.

“I don’t care,” I sighed. He’ll probably forget anyways.

“How about Sukiyama? At exactly twelve?” I nodded and waved my hand. Where is Sukiyama anyways? “Great! I’ll meet you at the park, at our bench then ok?”

“Sure, sure,” I closed the door. Wait. Our bench?

I know I probably should go, but I just couldn’t help but think he forgot, or didn’t really mean it. It was already eleven fifty. I had heard him leave his apartment at six this morning, so I know he has work. I bet you’re wondering why I woke up at six, huh?

Well, since I’m not working, I decided that I should wake up at six every morning, get breakfast and work out. And that's my plan until I decided to get a job, or do a CD. Which I need to decide soon before my life goes to waste.

Twelve rounded the corner and soon twelve thirty came to view. I was watching TV when there was a loud banging on my door.

“Hello?” I opened the door. I was shocked. “Aiba Masaki!” he looked mad. So he didn’t forget. I felt horrible.

“How could you stand me up?” he said angrily. “And for what?” he glanced in. “TV?”

“Well I thought you had work to do, don’t most idols have work to do?” I argued, trying to defend myself.

“Yea, but I made time out of my busy schedule to take you to lunch!”

“How come?” this would be fun to watch.

“Because I want to see you!” Aiba Masaki closed his mouth and looked confused for a moment. “I-I mean, we-you asked-we said that we’d eat lunch together, remember?” his voice was quiet. My mouth hung open. Did he just say he wanted to see me? Wow…

“I don’t even know where Sukiyama is…” I said quietly.

“I figured, that’s why I told you to meet me at our bench.” There it was again. Our bench. “Come on, let’s go! I’m hungry,” he grabbed my hand. “Remember, it’s your treat today!” I quickly grabbed my keys and my wallet before bring dragged out of my apartment and locking the door.

Tip three: When he says he’ll make time. He means it.

Aiba Masaki pulled me into the train station. He pulled out his wallet and bought two tickets, then handed me one. I took it silently. He let go of my hand and went through, I followed him to the other side, where he grabbed my hand once again. He wasn’t wearing a disguise and many people screamed when they saw him, and glared when they saw me. I pushed it away though, I was just curious as to where he was taking me. I know, the restaurant Sukiyama, but where is that?

The train ride was silent. Well, silent between the two of us, while girls around us screamed, trying to talk to Aiba Masaki, who just ignored them. He squeezed my hand though when they came near him, making him nervous. I laughed to myself. I guess idols get nervous too.
At the fifth stop, he pulled me out of the train and we rushed out. That’s when I finally couldn’t stand the silence.

“Aiba Masaki!” I pulled my hand free from his and stopped. He turned around with a quizzical look.

“What?” he asked. I felt like smacking him.

“Where are we going? This is far from home!” I frowned. “I’m defiantly going to get lost getting home from here!” I didn’t want to sound like I was a little kid, but I’m sort of directionally challenge. It took me at least three weeks to finally know my way from my apartment to the park, train station, and my parent’s house. And well, a few shops that are close to those areas. How was I supposed to get home from a totally different city? Find my way from a restaurant to the train station, get on the right train, get off at the right stop, I just knew I couldn’t do it without ending up somewhere totally different.

“Don’t worry,” his voice was soft; a hint of amusement was in it. “I’ll make sure you get home.” He walked over to me. “But for now, we have to hurry up and get to Sukiyama.” Why? What was the rush? Was his schedule that tight? I got my answer though, when we walked in.

“Aiba!” At a secluded booth, I saw the other four Arashi members. Ohno waving widely at us. Great. Now I was going to meet the people this guy hung out with!

“Remember when I said you’d have to meet Sho-chan? So I can prove to you that I’m better than him?” he never said he had to prove to me that he was better than Sakurai. Though, it would be funny to watch. Wait! Why does he have to prove that he’s better than him? Is he jealous that I said if I were to obsess over someone it would be Sakurai? But that was just an if statement. I can’t believe he took it so personally. He is weird.

“Who is this?” Ninomiya said, scooting over for the two of us to sit. Across from me was Ohno, next to him was Sakurai and next to Sakurai was Matsumoto. I made sure I didn’t look too much at Matsumoto. I avoided looking at him. I felt everyone’s eyes on me.

“This is Mimura Rika,” Aiba Masaki introduced me. As if I couldn’t introduce myself. I rolled my eyes and gave him a small push.

“Nice to meet you,” I smiled and bowed my head slightly.

“Mimura…?” I heard Sakurai say. “Is your mom Mimura Aya?” I looked at him, a grin on his face. And Aiba Masaki said he didn’t have brains.

“She is,” I nodded.

“She’s really nice, tell her I said ‘hi’,” Sakurai smiled.

“She’s the one who said we don’t put out good songs,” Aiba Masaki said. Sakurai and Ninomiya laughed. Ohno smiled. Matsumoto had an upset look on his face.

“I didn’t say that!” I protested. I didn’t, really. I never said that they don’t put out good songs, just that they only put out the occasional good song. “I like some of your songs, like the new one…” I thought hard, trying to remember the name. But the truth is, I couldn’t remember how the song went at all.

“We can make it?” Ohno helped me out. I thanked him with my eyes. He was a nice guy.

“Yea, that one.” So, they weren’t all annoying like this Aiba Masaki. That was good.

“What else?” Matsumoto said, looking hurt. I could just tell that he would be worse than this Aiba Masaki. I’m glad that I at least didn’t bump into him at the park.

“I like…” I stopped. Shoot! I don’t know the song names! “I can’t list them off.” I needed an excuse. “I don’t want to say anything since you guys are the artists. Plus, Aiba Masaki is here.”

“What does me being here have to do with this?!” Aiba exclaimed. Here we go again.

“Because then you’d make a big deal out of it and everything will be a mess!”

“How do you know?” Because I just know! But I didn’t say that. I ignored him, a different thought coming to mind.

“You said I had to pay, I’m not paying for everyone!” I exclaimed, remembering our deal. Aiba Masaki stopped and thought for a moment.

“Yea…I don’t want you to either…I guess for today, we can just have Jun-chan pay for us,” he smiled. Everyone nodded and agreed, looking at Matsumoto. That was nice, I guess I’ll try harder to get used to his face.

“Thank you, Matsumoto-san,” I smiled. He glared at everyone, but didn’t protest.

“Don’t thank him, it’s ok,” Aiba Masaki said, waving at his members.

“Of course I have to thank him! He’s buying me lunch! I want to be polite,” I frowned at Aiba Masaki.

“Why are you getting mad?!” he said back.

“I’m not getting mad, I’m just telling you I’d rather be polite than rude,” I crossed my arms, facing away from him.

“Are you saying I’m rude?”

“You can be,” I felt Aiba Masaki turn around, facing the other way. Great, another fight.

“Are you guys dating?” Ninomiya said. Wow, did that catch me off guard.

“Date? Him?” I pointed at the guy next to me. Everyone nodded their heads, leaning forward to hear our answer. “Him?”

“Hey! What’s so bad about dating me?” Aiba Masaki turned to face me. Was he serious? Oh wow, what am I getting myself into?

“Because it’s you, Aiba Masaki!” I gave a small smile. “Plus, you could get any girl you want.” The members leaned back.

“But I can’t,” I heard a low murmur.

“What?” why couldn’t he?

“Because the girl I like doesn’t seem to like me,” he said this, staring right into my eyes. Was I hearing right? Am I seeing right? I felt my face burn, and I saw the other members with grins on their face. “You see, I haven’t known her long, but I think I like her.” I nodded, going along with things. “We keep getting in arguments, but the more we fight, I feel like the more I’m getting to know her.” I swallowed.

“Well, why don’t you just tell her you like her?” he can’t be talking about me. Aiba Masaki, liking me? Having a crush on me? Yea, right.

“Ok,” I heard him say. I felt his hand on mine. “Mimura Rika, I think I have a crush on you.” My mouth hung open. Aiba Masaki, likes me? Has a crush on me? I could almost laugh.

“What kind of joke is this?” I smiled. Really, this was funny. “It’s a good one.” Aiba Masaki made a face.

“It’s not a joke, I’m serious.” His hand gripped mine tighter. I winced a little. He saw it and loosened his grip. “Sorry…” he said softly, rubbing my hand.

“Ah-hem,” Ohno coughed, bringing us back to earth. “Our food is here.”

“But we didn’t order…” I looked at all the different dishes around us. It all looked so nice.

“But we did,” Sakurai smiled, picking up a plate and putting food onto it. And boy did they eat a lot! Except for Ninomiya.

Tip four: When you meet his friends, don’t be shocked at their ‘real’ personalities.

Lunch was great, I got to laugh and joke around with a famous band. They were all nice, and by the time we left, they all asked to meet me again.

“They’re nice people,” I said as I walked down the street with Aiba Masaki.

“They are, I guess,” he laughed. His hand brushed mine. I felt my heart leap. An awkward silence settled between us. Then his hand brushed against mine again. Was he doing this on purpose? He must be, since he just did it again. Wow, was this annoying. I was about to take a step away from him when his hand gripped onto mine.

“Aiba Masaki?” I looked up at him. He smiled down at me.

“Yes? Mimura Rika?” I felt my face heat up and looked away. What am I supposed to say? I feel so awkward! The walk to the station was quiet, and the train ride, except for screaming girls like before, and the walk to the apartment. Aiba Masaki held my hand the whole time. I wasn’t sure if I was so nervous that my hand was sweating, or if it was his, but it felt sweaty.

“Um…” I said when we reached my door. What was I supposed to do? Invite him in? Or say goodbye? “Don’t you have work?” the first thing that came to my mind, it popped out of my mouth.

“Not for the rest of the week,” he smiled. “That way, I can bother you, like you wanted.” Like I wanted? When did I want that? I stuck my tong out at him.

“I don’t want you to bother me!” I unlocked my door. He didn’t let go of my hand as I tried to pull away. Instead he just followed me in. “What are you doing?!” I shrieked.

“Coming in, of course!” Aiba Masaki furrowed his eyebrows. “What else does it look like?” Why is he coming in? How rude! I didn’t even invite him in! “It’s clean,” he smiled. “Definitely shows in your personality.” What was that supposed to mean?

“Fine, if you’re coming in, make sure you take off those boots,” I pointed down at his large boots. He shrugged and took them off. I kicked off my sneakers and walked to the living room. Aiba Masaki still didn't let go of my hand. I’m sure that he notices when I try to pull away. I think he’s just doing this to annoy me.

“What do you do usually?” he asked me as we stood in the middle of the room.

“Read, and write a little,” I pointed to a room at the far end. “I have a library.” I admit, I’m a book worm. I love reading. It's a way for me to escape this world, live in another world, see the world from someone else’s view.

“Can I take a look?” Without an answer, Aiba Masaki pulled me towards the door. He sure is a gentleman. I opened the door for him and we entered a room full of book shelves. I have to say, it looked pretty awesome. I stood there, admiring my large book collection. “You’ve read all of these?” Of course I have! If I haven’t, they wouldn’t be in there; I’d have them by my bed, reading it!

“Yea,” I decided not everyone would understand that. Especially this one. He let go of my hand and walked over to a shelf. I quickly wiped my hand on my pant legs and followed him. I wasn’t sure what he was going to do, but I loved all my books. I want to make sure he doesn’t do anything.

“What do you recommend?” recommend? Everything!

“Um…this one,” I pulled out a small, tattered, leather-bound book. It was an old book, my favorite. Not just because of the words written on the inside, but because of the looks, the smell, everything about it.

“What is it about?” Aiba Masaki held it in his hands gently.

“It’s sort of like Romeo and Juliet, except, its placed in Japan and its more…” I searched for the rights words. “Capturing.”

“Can I read it?” he asked. I thought for a moment.

“You read?”

“Of course! Who can’t?” Aiba Masaki said, hurt. I didn’t mean it like that, stupid!

“I mean, you read books?” He looked embarrassed.

“I love reading, actually. I would read more if I had the time, and good books.” Oh, so he reads. That's a shock.

“Sure, you can borrow it, but if anything happens to it,” I gave him a warning look. “You’ll be sorry!” Aiba Masaki carefully held the book and walked out of the room. He set the book on the counter by my door.

“Don’t worry, I won’t damage it at all.” I hope I can trust him on that. “It’s killing me, will you please answer me?” Huh? Answer him about what? I just said he could borrow the book. Did he ask any other question?

“Answer what?” He walked up to me. Wow, I never noticed how tall he was.

“I think…no, I do. I like you. Will you be mine?” he kneeled down. “I know I wasn’t able to prove myself gentlemanly like the other day, so could I make it up to you by this?” he held out his hand and bowed his head. What is he doing? I’ve never had anyone ask me out like this. It was quite amusing. “Will you be my girlfriend?” he looked up at me, a smile on his face. I felt the corners of my mouth tug into a smile. I placed my hand in his.

“I will,” I said before my mind agreed with my mouth. I hope I won’t regret taking his hand…I know I hardly know him, but it just felt so right. Or maybe I’m just caught up in the moment?

“Great!” he jumped up, hugging me tightly. “This is so great!”

“Aiba Masaki!” I gasped out. He held me out at arms length, pouting.

“How about Masaki?” he grinned. “Rika.” My heart felt like it stopped. He just called me Rika. Rika? It sounded so…different when he said it. I wanted to hear it again.

“Ma…Masaki?” I tested it out. It sounded weird. I could feel my face burn.
“Yes, Rika?” there! He said it again! Oh wow…I felt my knees go slightly weak. I hope he didn’t notice. He pulled me into another embrace. “Rika, Rika, Rika!” he said into my ear.

“Masaki,” I replied once. It still felt weird to say his first name only. “I think I’m going to stick with Aiba Masaki…” he didn’t reply. “Ouch!” he pulled my hair I heard him snicker. “Aiba Masaki!” I yelled, shoving him away.

“Yea, Rika?” he frowned playfully.

“That hurt!” I reached over and pulled his hair. I know, very childish. But I couldn’t help but act this way when I was around him. I felt like a child again.

“I’m sorry, it just looked so … pretty … and so pull-able.”

“Well,” I grinned, pinching his left cheek.

“Owe!” he grumbled, rubbing his cheek. “What was that for?”

“Sorry,” I frowned back at him playfully. “It just looked so…pinch able.” He laughed, making me laugh along with him.

“Aiba-chan?” I jumped. Don’t tell me he told the rest of Arashi where I lived! Masaki got up and ran to the door, opening it up and sticking his head outside.

“What do you want?” he said angrily.

“What are you doing over there?” It was Sakurai’s voice. I heard him push Masaki to the side and shoved his head in. “Mimura-san?” he asked in surprise. “You live next to him?” I nodded. I know, I was surprised too. “Is he bothering you?”

“He is,” I nodded. Masaki turned around and looked at me with shocked eyes.

“How am I bothering you?!” he ran back to me. I looked at him with a teasing smile. I just smiled. nothing else. Masaki also smiled. We stared at each other, lost in our own world. I didn’t know that his eyes were so…deep.

“Excuse me?” Sakurai coughed.

“Oh, Sakurai-san!” I jumped, looking at the door where he stood. “Come in, would you like some tea?”

“Thank you,” he nodded, taking off his shoes and closing the door behind him.

“Um, you can sit on the couch,” I gestured at my black couch as I walked into my kitchen.

“Do you need help?” I heard Masaki call in after me.

“No, I’m fine,” I felt so embarrassed. I can’t believe I forgot about someone and left him standing in the door way! How rude of me! I poured some hot water into three mugs and put in a tea bag in each one. I then carried them over to the coffee table where the two guys sat.

“What?” Masaki frowned. I missed the conversation, but by the looks of it, it didn’t seem like a happy one.

“What’s wrong?” I asked. Masaki looked at me with sad eyes.

“Can you believe it? Johnny took my vacation away!”

“Not just yours!” Sakurai said firmly. Ah, so he has work.

“I’m going to have to go to Nagoya for two days!” Nagoya? Two days? At least I’ll get some peace. I laughed inwardly.

“Oh…” was all I was able to say.

“Isn’t that horrible? I won’t be able to see you!”

“Good,” I laughed.

“You won’t miss me?!”

“Are you sure you guys aren’t dating?” Sakurai came into our conversation. We both looked at him, smiling stupidly. “Oh?” I didn't want to say anything. And I’m glad I didn’t have to. Masaki was so wrong about Sakurai not having brains.

“I will miss you.” I finally said. Sakurai’s phone rang. He answered it and walked away while he talked to someone on the phone. I glanced at Masaki, who I caught staring at me. I felt my face burn, seeing him star at me like that.

“Aiba-chan, we have to go,” Sakurai bowed to me. “Thank you for tea,” he smiled. “I’ll see you again soon.” Soon? That would be fun. Masaki and I stood up.

“Do you want to help me pack?” was he a kid? Can’t he pack by himself? But I somehow got the feeling that he just wanted me to come over to his apartment so we could spend more time together. I just nodded.

After seeing his apartment, which wasn’t too different from mine just a lot messier, he was packed. He gave me a tight hug before closed his door.

“I’ll miss you,” he whispered into my ear, letting me go. I smelled his cologne. It smelled good. I waved at the two guys as they entered the elevator and disappeared. I suddenly felt sad. I wouldn’t be able to argue with Masaki for two days. What else am I supposed to do?

Tip five: Stay tough when they leave for their jobs.

I kept myself busy. In fact, I almost forgot that I had a boyfriend, and that he was gone. That's how busy I was. I decided the day after Masaki left, I would go get a job instead of putting out a CD. I talked to my parents, who were disappointed, but supportive. I bet you’re wondering why I didn’t go for the CD, am I right? I want to be able to live my life at my own pace. Have my private life kept private, having free time to do what I want. Even though with a job, I know I’ll be restricted from a lot of things, but I just think it would be easier. Plus, my father offered me a job.

I was asked to be an assistant for his secretary. The first image of a secretary that comes to most peoples minds are young, female who dresses up too much for just sitting in a chair. This secretary is different though. She was young and she was a female. She didn’t dress up though; she actually comes to work in just a pair of baggy jeans and a t-shirt. My father doesn't mind, since he dresses that way to work too.

“My name is Kiritani Hitomi,” she smiled when my father told her I was her assistant.

“My name is Mimura Rika,” I shook her hand. She looked to be a couple of years older than me. She was so cool; I wish I could be like her. First impression, she seems like a strong person. A leader in all ways. The type that knows what she’s doing and will do it right.

“Mimura-san?” she looked down at her desk. My father snapped his attention to him. “You have a meeting today, from twelve,” she flipped over a few pieces of paper. “At the ‘Egyptian Pyramid’.” My father nodded. Oh wow, the ‘Egyptian Pyramid’? That was one of the nicest restaurants around! How lucky is he to eat there? I wish I could go. I gave a little pout to my father, only to get a laugh from him as he patted my back.

“Kiritani, please take care of my daughter,” he smiled, then left to go to the studio to work with a band that was here to record. As if I couldn’t take care of myself. I turned to Kiritani-san.

“Your desk is there,” she pointed to the desk across from hers. I nodded and walked over. It was a simple desk, a desktop computer on it and a small filing cabinet next to it. The chair was a black, soft, computer chair. At least the chair is nice. I smiled. “You won’t have to do much desk work, but I’m going to need you to help out the staff down in the studios a lot,” she frowned as she looked through her desk. A smile popped onto her face. “Want to check it out?” she dangled her keys in front of her face, a grin on.

“Definitely!” this was going to be awesome! I get to see actual bands while they record! How cool is that? I followed Kiritani-san down the hall and a few flight of stairs.

“This is the studio level,” she said in a professional voice. “There are four studios here, and the names of the people who will use them are always posted on the outside,” she pointed at a small whiteboard next to each door. That was useful. We stopped at one of the doors. I didn’t recognize the name, but it sounded cool. ‘R.A.D.’ Rad. Wasn’t that slang for cool or something in English? I think I remember hearing that in a surfing movie once. Ah, but who cares?

Kiritani-san opened the door and we walked in. The room was exactly what I expected. You know the studios that you see in movies, shows and stuff? It looked exactly like that. You’d think that I would have seen one by now, since my father works here. But the truth is, it’s my first time even being in this building. I wasn’t the type of kid who went to my parents offices when I felt like it. I was the type that avoided it, even if I knew my favorite artist was going to be there.

In the booth, a guy, my age, was standing there reading a sheet of paper, large headphones around his neck. He had black hair that curled a little, he didn’t like Japanese, more American. His eyes were on the blue side and his face shape was a little different. He wore a fitted plain black shirt and torn jeans. Around his wrist he had, by the looks, a hand made beaded bracelet with the Jamaican colors. He nodded his head twice, not looking up from the paper.

“So, can we go through it again with the new changes?” he leaned into the microphone as he clipped the paper on the stand. His eyes never leaving it the whole time.

“That’s Hitani Renji,” Kiritani-san whispered. “Do you know him?” I shook my head. She stifled a laugh. “He’s one of the hottest artists right now in Japan. He’s recording his fourth single right now.” I’ve never heard of him, but then again, I’ve been listening to older songs recently.

“Ah, Hitomi-chan!” Renji looked out, waving. Kiritani-san waved back.

“Kiritani-san!” he men at the desk turned around. They all seemed to be in their mid thirties. “Who is this?” the man in the middle said. His hair was black, gelled back. He reminded me of those old men who tried to look young, except he was pretty young. Weird. I smiled.

“This is Mimura Rika, she’s my new assistant.”

“Ah, so you’re Mimura’s daughter, nice to meet you,” the man on the far left smiled. I nodded.

“She’ll be helping you guys out instead of me from now on,” Kiritani-san put her hands on my shoulders. Wait, what am I supposed to do? “So be gentle.” The men nodded.

“Who is she?” Renji’s voice came from the speakers. The middle man turned around and pressed a button.

“I’ll tell you later!” I hope this will be fun. I looked into the booth and saw Renji pout. I hope he’s not too much of a pain. It would be horrible if he turned out to be like Masaki!

The rest of the day, I was told just to sit back and relax. I took their word and did so. I sat in a chair, away from the technology, just for safety precautions, and watched.

The second day was basically the same. I sat and watched, but I was told to do some other things. Copy, buy food and drinks, I didn’t mind though. Sitting there the whole time listening to Renji sing the same part over and over was getting boring. And painful when he was too out of tune.

I walked into my apartment building, exhausted. The guards just gave me a kind smile when I walked by them. I got onto the elevator and pressed my floor. Slowly, the elevator picked up speed. I leaned back and watched as the numbers grew larger. I let my eyes droop down. There was the soft ding. I opened my eyes and almost screamed.

“Rika!” A man jumped into the elevator and almost crushed my ribs with a tight embrace. I struggled free, my heart pounding in fear. I looked at the man. Masaki? Oh yea! He’s coming back today! Ah, well, for a punishment for leaving me…

“Who are you?” I put on a confused look. I made my way out of the elevator, making sure to stay away from him. His face was shocked. Here it comes.

“You don’t remember me?!” he cried. I frowned, trying to think. I slowly shook my head.

“What’s your name?”

“I can’t believe you don’t remember me! I was only gone for two days! Rika!” He ran up to me, hugging me. I pushed him off, I still couldn’t let the act go. This was pretty fun.

“Um…how do you know my name?” I saw him open his mouth, at loss as to what to say. I broke out in a grin.

“Huh?” Masaki mumbled when I hugged him.

“Do you really think I’d forget an annoying arrogant person like you that easily?” I pulled away.

“Of…of course not!” he stammered. I saw the relief on his face. I smirked.

“You really are fun to teas,” I walked to my door. He followed me. “How was your trip?” I’m sure he’ll come in, even without me asking. Really, this guy, I’m going to have to teach him a lot.

“It was fun!” and yes, he did come into my room. He took off his shoes and followed me to the living room. I set my bag on the coffee table and plopped down on my couch, ready to listen to the long talk I was about to get from Masaki. I was prepared. But when I didn’t hear his voice, I looked up from my hands and saw him sitting on the floor, sleeping.

“Aiba Masaki?” I said softly. I heard his heavy breathing. Did he seriously fall asleep on me? I can’t believe he’s sleeping! I got up and walked over to him. I poked him a couple of times, just to make sure he wouldn’t jump up and scare me. Yea, he was asleep. I smirked. “You really are tired,” I sighed, grabbing a blanket from my closet and putting it around him. I carefully pulled him down to the ground, resting his head on a pillow.

Tip six: Their jobs take a lot out of them, traveling and concerts. Don’t be surprised if you find them falling asleep in a middle of a conversation, especially after a trip.
