i was able to watch both the ova and film version of boku wa imouto ni koi wo suru. overall, the subject matter was really interesting. i'm all for taboo topics. i was quite surprised that jun took on that project. it's nice to know that he is willing to explore different characters to show his range as an actor.
this movie was designed to screw with your mind...seriously. naturally, in your heart you're pushing for this young couple and you're sitting there watching it like "kiss her, kiss her"....but then you stop and remember, "oh yeah...that's right....she's his sister!!" the entire time i watched it, my mind confused itself b/c did i really want yori and iku to make it work???? and because of that lingering thought, i think i'll go with the popular word on this thread.....disturbing...but in more of an intrigued sense
I don't know why I've taken so long after watching this to comment on it...
Anyways.
Yeah, it was an interesting movie. I don't think the Japanese are actually open, about incest per se, but it's a taboo subject that they seem to like to explore quite a lot in fictional works. As for the film itself, I suppose it was suppose to be a bit of a "mood piece" but mostly it seemed to just scratch the surface of a difficult problem that two siblings might find themselves in without contributing anything new or truly heartfelt. I agree with previous commenters that there didn't seem to be much chemistry between Jun and the actress playing his sister. I also feel that they perhaps should have had a little more pre-amble to show their usual relationship other than that childhood memory.
I did like the janken-onbu scene. That was really sweet.
Also the steadycam (or not-so-steady-cam :S) work kinda irritated me rather than adding a real-life, candid effect.

uhmmm... I don't like the movie even though I love matsuJun but the plot was kinda boring for me.
It was also different from the anime and the manga. I was so excited to see this movie at first but then I wasn't satisfied. But the actors acting wierd good.

i am downloading it right now but not yet sure if i would watch it. the comments in this thread makes it like a horror movie (yes, reading the comments make me scared) i don't really freak out to taboo things but there's just something in this movie that makes me do not want to watch it... well, i dunno. maybe its the reviews? peace!
you guys can stone me for this, but didn't like the movie. it was silent for the most part, and my expectations for this fell so short. jun did a great job, but i wanted to see more... action? words? conversations? it seemed like almost everything was left unsaid...
well, that's what i think, though. am i the only one who thinks this way? (judging by the previous posts, maybe i am. T__T)

i agree. there were TONS of times when i was wishing someone would just say something!!! but i think all that silence may have been the director's attempt at trying to get the actors to send out their feelings through the screen...by using what's called "pregnant silence." there were so many things the characters wanted to say to each other, but either couldn't, or were too afraid to, or whatever
and to those who are scared to watch, don't be...it's not like a rated x movie or anything. nothing terrible happens...unless you're traumatized by high school girls in short skirts
I just watched it and it I was quite sad afterwards because they're doing something the society does not condone and it was so touching especially how much yori cares for iku and kept apologising for loving her even though he couldn't help it.

if you're talking about me i've watched it. i agree that there are just too few words. but i guess it's intentional because in reality, there are just things that can be understood even without putting them into words. i think this movie is not intended for pleasure. for me it was good film.

that might be true. but it got really bland (if that's the right word) at some parts... especially when the silence kicks in.
sorry for being the devil's advocate in this... jun still rocks.
i liked this movie, i read some review about it being boring but i really liked it, it was sad, however, i mean, how can they ever go back to how they were before? can they just forget everything that happened, so sad...

I finally got to see this movie subbed. xD
My thoughts - Jun really didn't look like he was into his character. I've read the manga to this series and like Bambino, very glad they toned down the character since he was lot more possessive. Still, it just look like he was acting and not putting thought into it. It bugged me cause Jun's always into his characters. I will say he was very cute in it. ;)
Wow.. reading some of the previous comments.. i'm confused whether i should watch this movie or not.. i'll probably watch it later if i have a spare time.. since Eikura Nana isn't my fav actress and incest isn't my fav topic anyway but i have to say bravo for Matsu Jun for taking this kind of role.. i'm sure it was really challenging for him
