Ceilings are boring Aiba thought to himself as he stared up at the ceiling from his rather comfortable yet boring spot on Sho's couch. It's just white, mine's white too...who chose ceilings to be white? Maybe i should change that-wait a minute-
"Since when are your walls blue?" Aiba questioned as he looked around Sho's apartment at the pale blue painted walls. They were everywhere, yet Aiba never remembered them being blue. He was sure they were white when he walked into the apartment that morning.
"You say something?" Sho still didn't look away from his laptop. The same laptop he had been staring at for the last four hours that Aiba had been over, probably even longer then that.
"Yeah, I did." Aiba pointed out, "Since when are your walls blue?"
Sho, for the first time since his bathroom break an hour ago, looked away from his laptop and straight at Aiba, "You're kidding, right?"
"No, it's really blue! When was this painted?" Aiba ran his hands over the smooth surface, "I really like the color."
"Aiba, it's been blue for the past three months." Sho laughed and it made Aiba smile. The younger man always adored the way Sho laughed, Sho had the best laugh. "And I'm pretty sure we've had this conversation multiple times."
"Are you sure?"
"I think I'd know when i painted my living room, and I would have thought you remembered helping me paint it. You were running around with the paintbrush in the air marking everyone's faces." Sho smiled, which once again made Aiba smile. Because to Aiba, Sho had the best smile.
Aiba thought about it for a moment, “Is it weird that I remember painting the room but I actually don’t remember it ever being blue?”
“Just a little.” Sho let out a few chuckles before returning to his work.
Aiba had a large grin on his face, he distracted Sho from work, it wasn’t the first time that happened, but distracting Sho was a rather hard thing to do. It made Aiba feel special.
And it was now that Aiba decided that Sho was probably most adorable when he was working. It wasn’t the cute wrinkle in his forehead or his kissable, pouted lips that made Aiba believe Sho was cutest when working even though they both were immensely adorable to Aiba. It was the look in his eyes and the smile on his face when he finally pulled away with an aura of accomplishment making him glow no matter how long he had been working.
What was I just thinking about? Aiba questioned in his mind and laid on the couch.
“Paint!” he jumped off the couch and ran out of the apartment.
As he ran down the stairs, he was too excited for the elevator, he got a call from Sho, “Aiba, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Aiba was still running, “Why? I’ve only been gone for a few seconds, you miss me already?”
“No, I just thought something was wrong with the way you bolted out of here.”
Aiba laughed. A part of him had been hoping that Sho would have said yes. He already missed Sho even though it had only been a few seconds. But then again, Sho didn’t harbor the same feelings.
Or does he? The optimistic part of Aiba’s brain spoke.
“Well it’s all fine so go back to work.” Aiba instructed and then hung up, finally reaching the bottom floor of the stairwell.
As fast as he could, he ran to the nearest art supply store and bought many colors of bright paint. Then, as he headed back to Sho’s apartment, he realized that he’d need to make up some type of excuse to keep Sho in the dark about his master plan.
….
“Here you go!” Aiba handed Sho some ramen, “I decided to go get some food!”
“Thanks.” Sho took it but just placed it on the table, “I’m not that hungry at the moment, but I’ll definitely eat it when I can get a break.”
“Good, you need to remember to eat, we can’t have you getting too skinny, it’ll make me look fat.” Aiba joked as he got his own ramen out and ate some.
It only took a few more minutes for Sho to once again become completely involved in his work. Aiba took this as his chance to take all of Sho’s old news papers to cover the furniture and the floor. He then began to paint the ceiling by either throwing massive gobs of paint in the air or covering his hand with paint and leaving his hand print all over Sho’s ceiling.
After covering the ceiling with random paint, he took the pink paint out and the one paintbrush he had bought to write on the ceiling. Once he wrote what he wanted to, he cleaned up and threw out his supplies, including the newspaper, and then decided to clean himself up.
Once back into the main room, Aiba was shocked to find Sho still working at the table.
He must be working hard to be so zoned out that he doesn’t smell the paint.
“Sho!” Aiba shouted and ran towards the older boy. Sho didn’t turn around until he heard a large thump on the ground. And when he did turn around, he saw Aiba lying on the floor with one leg leaned against the couch. “ITAI!”
“What happened?” Sho suppressed a giggle and helped his friend up.
“I wanted to give you a hug so I ran but the couch was in my way and I figured I’d run over it but then I tripped over the couch and I fell down.” Aiba pouted. He then pouted to his chin, which was now red, “Itai!”
“I’m sorry,” Sho laughed and kissed him on the chin, “That make the pain go away?”
“Hai!” Aiba smiled as he thought but it makes my heart hurt knowing that was probably more of a joke then love.
Sho then looked out the window and saw that the sun had already gone down, “Aiba, what time is it?”
“Not a clue. Why?” He then looked out the window and saw that the sun had gone down, “Wow, I totally didn’t notice, I guess time flies when you’re having fun! But I should get going, I feel like walking home today,”
“You sure?” Sho asked, “You could always crash on the couch tonight.”
“No, I think I’ll go home today.” Aiba smiled and grabbed his jacket, “Good night! Don’t stay up too late working, and eat your ramen!”
“I will,” Sho smiled and walked Aiba to the door, “Good night.”
As soon as Aiba was out of Sho’s building, he took out his cell phone and called Sho. Without really noticing what he was doing, he looked up into Sho’s apartment, which was now a lot more easy to find.
“Sakurai desu,” Sho’s business answer made Aiba laugh. Someone was too obsessed with his laptop to look to see who was calling him.
“Don’t Sakurai desu me!” Aiba laughed, “You’re Sho! Or Sho-kun, or some other names I cant think of.”
“Oh, Aiba, did you decide to stay here?” Sho questioned and Aiba thought, and hoped, that he heard some excitement in his friend’s voice.
“No, but I did remember that I needed to tell you something.” Aiba smiled. “Ok, stand up-“
“Aiba, I need to get to work, I’m so close to being finished.” Sho whined.
“It’ll take two seconds if you don’t complain.” Aiba pointed out, “So stand up and face the couch.”
After a shuffling sound, Sho asked, “What am I looking for?”
“You’ll see it, just look up.” And with that, Aiba hung up the phone and continued walking with a slight blush on his cheeks.
It wasn’t until a few minutes later that he heard someone calling his name. He looked behind him and saw Sho running with no coat and still in his house slippers. “AIBA!”
Taking a deep breath, he waited for Sho to catch up and was absolutely shocked when he felt the older man’s lips on his own.
After a breathless kiss, Aiba pulled away with a goofy grin and asked, “So I’m guessing you do feel the same way?”
“For the longest time. And I also realized that I ignored you today and I’m so sorry. So just give me five minutes to finish off work and then I’m yours for the night.”
Aiba smiled, that sounded like a good idea.
…
A week later Arashi all piled into Sho’s apartment with warm take out and the plan to sit around and do nothing until they fell asleep. Sho and Ohno both headed straight to the table with the food while Jun sat on an armchair, Aiba on the floor, and Nino laid on the couch with his eyes closed.
Suddenly, after Nino opened his eyes his jaw dropped, “Sho, why does your ceiling say ai shiteru?”
Ohno and Jun immediately looked up at the ceiling while Sho blushed, dropping his food, and Aiba smiled up at the heart that was above the words. Sho quickly cleaned up the food, saving what he could, and just replied, “It kinda just appeared there while I was working.”
