I think Arashi are the best performers out of all the J's groups, they are so animated and energetic whenever they perform.
Also, their choreography is designed so that each member gets an equal chance of being in the spotlight, there's not one central character and none of them are shafted to the back.
Some other JE bands don't do this and focus on mainly some of their members while placing others in the background (I think KAT-TUN does this).
They also have their own great individual personalities while on stage, they're not clones of the "cool type" or "cute type" -- they're all distinguishable.

I really love Arashi's live performance as it make me feel I can just go high with them. And their dance movements are very catchy and make me wanna dance with them. Though I am very lousy in dancing, the hands and legs won't match. =.=
But everytime I see them having a live performance, I'll just get very high
And loves Aiba dancing too. =) Cuz he very energetic.

[color=blue]OMG I watched the perf in the newest Utawara last night! It's splendid! I don't know what I liked the most XDDD
...But what the hell was Aiba doing when Sho was singing the "Asu wo mabushii kurai ni blaablaa" part alone??? Talking to Ohno??? In the middle of performance?? lol[/blue]
I know this is from a while ago, but it made me rewatch the clip. I think Aiba-chan was just mouthing the lyrics as Sho's singing. It just so happens that Riida was facing Aiba at the same time, which makes it look funny.

3. Lai-Lai-Lai - MS Performance, 2005-08-05. They sang live and the dance steps are sugoii! Plus you can see Nakai and Kimura of SMAP cheering/clapping for them!
I totally forgot this performance - and I love it! Nino looks hot with that hair...
I also really like all the "Step and Go" performances back in February 2008 - the choreography is very versatile and well-rounded. Every time I watch them I end up choosing a different member in terms of who danced the best - I can't decide! I like the performance on Music Station on 2008.02.15, except...they were really out of tune! at the beginning. Maybe they didn't warm up their voices beforehand? But I like that performance because Sho gets to do the full rapping part. And Jun flashes about 10 times ...Kyaa!!!
Finally got the time to go through and watch most of their older performances on MS.
They are so completely adorable in performances like Kimi no tame ni boku ga iru ^^ They look so young!
I was wondering though if anyone knows in the beginning of the Music Station performance of Pikanchi (2003.01.03) video who the person in red is? The one who keeps touching Sho. It looks really amusing. I'm curious who it is ^^

I'm almost certain it's T.M. Revolution (Nishikawa Takanori).
so its true they do lipsync. its too bad ne. i hope they don't always lipsync. for the dance i don't like the girly dance like hadashi no mirai, and for some songs the dance doesn't match with the song. i like pikanchi dance and right back to you from iza now concert. maybe for some slow song (aozora pedaru, n days) they don't have to dance, just do the expression like when they sang blue, silver ring and be with you. i'm jun fan but i'm agree that he's not good in singing, but i hope he will be more practising on his vocal, maybe it not easy to fix his vocal, but at least his vocal will match with the music and nice to hear.
I Like their live performances!!! They're so energetic and lively. Their personality on stage plus their spontaneity just makes the whole performance oh so lovely.
oh and every time jun messes up his parts, it always gets so interesting. hehe

I love watching them preform live, and I could NEVER do what they do, even if I practiced for years. But they have so much energy and you can almost feel how happy they are no matter how tired and sweaty
in 2005, i thought their performances were par (I'm talking about show performances, not concerts since i honestly haven't seen a lot of their concerts), but after that, I think their voices really came together. they definitely sound better to me now than they did back then.
I absolutely adore Arashi's live performances They can almost always get me super hyped up because they just have such great stage presence. I wish they wouldn't lipsynch though... that kind of ruins it for me since I keep wondering if they're actually singing or just lipsynching.

i think if you listen to their CDs over and over and over again, you can definitely get an ear for detecting if they're lipsynching or not. as for Ohno, it's super hard to tell b/c he doesnt really change up his vocals unless it's an adlib. you gotta give them props for using their raw voices w/o studio editing or stuff like that.
it's not so bad for them to have some backup, though... it's pretty hard to dance & audibly sing at the same time, especially if there's complicated choreography. i remember going to an NSYNC concert (LOL) about 5 years ago... they sounded EXHAUSTED within an hour. haha.
what i established: if there are headsets, they're most likely lipsynching at some parts (like the chorus). if there are handheld mics, there's minimum backing vocals or they use raw voices (weeee i <3 that.)... but that's just what i've speculated w/ my experience of attending lives over the last few years.
i totally agree though, Arashi's stage presence is crazy awesome. i mentioned this in a different thread... i think it'd be great if Arashi could do a unplugged session or something. eh? eh? a real intimate setting. ideally, with Nino on the guitar. hehehe i'd love to see that.
