Can you believe it?! I can't make it 'Sharpen' see :
Those are blending options of layers
Not sure which version of the program you use, but in Photoshop CS2 sharpen options can be found from Filter → Sharpen. From there I use just the 'Sharpen' unless I mention something else.
And to clarify just in case, when I say "sharpen, normal 40%" it means the blending option of the layer is normal, opacity of the layer is 40% and the layer is sharpened. But it doesn't matter whether you first sharpen and then adjust blending/opacity or vice versa.

NOT that good -__-"
Looks nice. You may wanna adjust the quality when you save the file. I recommend to either save the icon as png-format or to use quality of 10-12 when saving in jpg-format (at least in CS2 12 is the best). That way the icon doesn't get pixelated.

Tutorial 6 - animated icon
● When switching between Photoshop and ImageReady do not close either of the programs. When the file is moved to Photoshop from ImageReady for editing the file no longer exists in ImageReady. Thus if you close it in Photoshop without saving it first it's gone.
1. Get your video clip ready. Note that ImageReady doesn't support XviD, DivX etc, so when cutting a clip in VirtualDubMod make sure compression is "Uncompressed RGB" and video mode "Full processing mode" when you save the video. The output file will be pretty large (my 6 seconds clip is 171MB) but it's ok.
2. Open the video clip in ImageReady, File → Open.
3. Now you need to choose video range and how many frames we will get. Our target shall be >30 frames since otherwise it'll be pretty hard to make an icon of less than 40KB (= can be uploaded to livejournal) without completely destroying the quality. This all depends on a video you have, and frames can be deleted in next step too. I chose 'From Beginning to End' and 'Limit to Every 6th Frame'. Hit OK.

4. ImageReady now picked the frames. I have 34 frames which is too much. But at the end of the clip there are frames I will cut away anyway. So first check the start and the end. I deleted frames 29-34 from the end by choosing them (use ctrl to choose several frames) and clicking the trash icon.
5. I now have 28 frames, but I will still delete some frames. Now delete frames that are similar or almost similar to each other so that only one of them is left (so do not delete both =D). For example frames 1 & 2 in my clip are very similar so I will delete the first frame. I keep on deleting frames so that I have 24 frames in the end.
Example of similar frames:
6. In this part it's good to save the file (psd-format). I crop the image a bit. It doesn't matter which frame you currently have active, cropping affects all of them.
7. Now let's change the duration of the frames. Activate the first frame. Hold down shift and click the last frame. Now all frames should be active. On any frame click the tiny mark after the number (0,03 in my case). Choose something suitable =D 0,2 is often pretty good. I want last two frames last a bit longer so I will change their duration to 0,3.
8. Save the psd-file again. Don't overwrite the last one, save in different name. Now let's resize our animation. Image → Image Size. I will make the width 70 pixels. Height will be 54 pixels in my case.
9. Yay we have the animation 8D I saved the file, and once again with different name. Time to go to edit it in Photoshop. File -> Edit in Photoshop. (Don't close ImageReady!)
10. Only one layer is visible. Don't make other layers visible! Also number of layers may not equal the number of frames. Ignore that. Go to very first layer and create a new transparent layer (Shift+Ctrl+N). Move it to the bottom.
11. Let's edit the animation colors, brightness, contrast etc a bit. Go to the top layer (it's still not visible). Which adjustment layers you add is totally up to you. I recommend Levels and Brightness & Contrast though. Adjustment layers affect all the layers below them.
12. So go to Layer → New Adjustment Layer → Levels. Unless the pic is very red, blue or green, don't edit anything else than RGB settings. Use preview and adjust to your liking. Usually levels are adjusted so that very dark and very light colors are cut. Add as many adjustment layers as you want. Just make sure they are on the top.
13. Let's make the animation icon size. Thus go to very first layer (the transparent layer we created). Image → Canvas Size → both width and height to 100 pixels.
14. I don't want the icon file size to be huge so instead of nice background etc I will make just neat borders. Create a new black document the same size as your animation (mine is 70x54). Then create a new transparent layer and drag it to the bottom. Canvas the document to icon size: Image → Canvas Size → both width and height to 100 pixels. Fill the transparent layer with white.
15. Right click the black layer image and choose Select Layer Transparency. Or click the black picture (in layer palette) when holding down ctrl.
16. Select → Transform Selection. Make the selection a bit bigger than the black area. Apply the transform.
17. Create a new layer (Shift+Ctrl+N). Selection is still on. Add a stroke: Edit → Stroke. Choose a color you want (it's the border color), width 1px, location outside.
18. Deselect selection. Zoom the picture as much as necessary. With Rectangular marquee tool select black area and border so that only corners of the border aren't selected (you need to make two selections - press down ctrl when making second selection).
19. Select → Inverse. Add a layer mask. If you like the borders like that, then fine. You can make them a bit blurry though: Filter → Blur → Gaussian Blur. Have preview on. Something from 1-3 works the best.
20. Done! Copy the whole thing. Edit → Copy merged or Shift+Ctrl+C. The document needs to be selected before copying is possible, of course.
21. Go back to animation document. Paste the copied pic to the bottom (do not paste it on the transparent layer we have - I have deleted that one).
22. Icon is ready You can now save it in Photoshop or go back to ImageReady to fix it (e.g. frame duration). At this point I recommend saving the document again - in psd-format and with different name.
23. If you save it in Photoshop: File → Save for Web. I want to use my icons in livejournal, so if the file size is over 40KB I decrease the colors from 256 to 128. If it's still over 40KB, I adjust 'Loss'. When ready click 'Save'. If you preview the animation in your computer it may looks slow and blurry. But it's not like that, it's exactly as it was in 'Save for Web' window.
Result (this needs still some fixing since it's over 40KB):
These were done the same way:
(do not use animated icons I have made)
